It was almost Syria……

Following our successful April 2010 DXpedition to Iraq as YI9PSE, we were in substantial talks with the Government of Syria to make a DXpedition from Damascus. The Government was cooperative and we were moving forward when the Syrian civil war started.

It pains us to see what is going on in Syria and now in Yemen as we really enjoyed being in Sana and Socotra in May, 2012. We fear that it may be a long time before anyone from the West can revisit Syria or Yemen.

What do you think?

I think I’m very glad that you were able to get in and out safely and successfully without major issues. It shows how you’ve been capable in negotiating and meeting the needs of both the DX community and the local DX sites. Well done!

That part of the world has been in conflict since it was first occupied and there is no reason to believe that will change in our time because people have to change. The core ‘problem’ goes beyond religious differences, but is a flaw in the human character; an unwillingness to share and being accepting of other views.

There may be ‘momentary’ pauses in the conflicts but a peaceful solution that meets all needs will likely never happen. May you continue to excel in being able to dodge and weave through the morass we call earth. :o)
